At Still Rising Inc., our mission is foster a brighter future by preventing teenage pregnancy through comprehensive education on abstinence and birth control. We believe that knowledge is empowering, by equipping young individuals with the necessary tools, we can guide them in making informed life choices. Additionally, we are committed to empowering women of all ages by providing crucial resources and unwavering support, whether it’s helping buy a home, start a business, further their education, or improve financial literacy. Through our collective efforts, we strive to uplift both young girls and adult women in our community, cultivating a culture of empowerment and resilience, and together, we can inspire change and create opportunities for a brighter tomorrow.

OMESHIA BOWENS

Omeshia Bowens is a resilient individual who has overcome significant challenges in her life. From becoming a teenage mother at 15 to founding the 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Still Rising Incorporated, she has used her personal journey as inspiration. Still Rising Inc focuses on women's empowerment and the prevention of teenage pregnancy, providing resources and support for women to achieve their goals.
In addition to her role as CEO, Omeshia is a published author, a Bennett Belle, and an aspiring Clinical Psychologist. She has spoken about black maternal health mortality at the National Black Caucus convention and has studied abroad in Morocco, Africa. Through her dedication and passion, Omeshia is making a difference in the lives of women and promoting cultural understanding.

VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME

Education requirements: Many students, particularly those in high school and college need to complete a certain number of volunteer hours for graduation. The nonprofit can sign off on these hours for the school.

Court-ordered community service: In certain cases, a court may order an individual to complete community service hours.

We are a registered 501(c)(3)nonprofit and will provide the necessary signed letter of verification upon completion of volunteer hours

Items needed for teens and adult women

Hygiene and self-care products:

New and unopened items are requested, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, deodorant, razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and feminine hygiene products. Some centers collect beauty products like lotions and perfumes for women to use for job interviews.

Maternity clothing and nursing supplies:

Gently used or new maternity clothes, nursing bras, and nursing pillows are often in demand. Some centers also accept breast pumps and other breastfeeding accessories.

General clothing and accessories:

New socks, new underwear, and gently used clothing and shoes are important, especially for those who have fled an abusive situation or are experiencing homelessness. Gift cards to stores like Walmart or Target allow women to purchase items they need for themselves.
Items for teens and adult women
Household goods: For women transitioning to their own housing, nonprofits may collect cookware, utensils, bedding, towels, and cleaning supplies.
Self-empowerment items: Some programs ask for new journals, pen sets, or books to support women's personal and educational growth.

Diapers and wipes: These are among the most consistently needed items for mothers. Organizations typically ask for all sizes of diapers and pull-ups, as well as unscented wipes.

Baby clothing: New or gently used baby and toddler clothes (often up to 5T) are always in demand.

Formula and baby food: Many centers collect unopened formula and non-perishable baby food. Some also have a pantry with items for older children, like healthy snacks.
